Story

A Bit of Background

From the Silk City aka Paterson, NJ, Heir Jordan aka D. Jordan Wash is a Thirty-year-old Hip-Hop phenom. The rapper elicits a depth of skill well beyond what is expected of any age. After years of crafting his skill with Open Mics, Mixtape features "Heir Jordan" released his first album called Makeup>Sex released under Bleuprint. The album was a success for the unknown rapper because he fused great audio with stunning visuals in the film adaptation of the album. Initially, the film was his way of breaking through the noise of the 60K songs released per day, But it has since become his calling card. Both received great praise and attention from his hometown and the surrounding cities.

Both projects illustrate all the capabilities that the new artist has. His vulnerability, wordplay, cadence, dynamics, and sound is a package that seldom comes and yet he continues to grow, refine and add to his catalog of skills.

Now after more development, he is ready to showcase another body of work that will impress and intimidate peers, listeners, and predecessors. Once again, Heir Jordan accomplishes the epitome of a musical project; to be diverse, yet cohesive and not redundant. This project only builds excitement for his soon-to-come debut album.

About Makeup>Sex

The album title Makeup>Sex (which is a play on words reflecting how women have lost so much respect for relationships in 2018 that makeup has now become of greater value than a physical connection) is fitting because in this album Heir Jordan takes you through each stage of a relationship from begging with a DM in “On Read” to ending on bad terms with “Breakup-Sex”. Words are woven over beats that are contemporary and still harken back to a 90’s R&B instrumentation. With words that come together like puzzle pieces, he is sure to turn casual rap fans to true Heir Jordan fanatics.

Most music artists today release their album, may release a few videos for some singles and then its onto the next album. NJ native, Heir Jordan took a completely different approach with his album he released this past March titled “Makeup Sex”. The album is both audio and visual and what makes the visual so great is that it in film form instead of a compilation of music videos for the songs on Makeup Sex. I listened to the album before watching the film and by doing so, I was able to bring everything Jordan talked about on the album, to life just by watching the film.

In an era full people competing to see which gender can care less, it’s nice to hear people celebrate one another. That’s the route Heir Jordan takes with “Financial Aid.”

The Paterson, New Jersey native took a note from the iconic New Orleans bounce scene, sampling Magnolia Shorty’s “Smoking Gun.” “Financial Aid” is a fun, uptempo track sure to make any woman working hard to be successful feel good.
